IWR School on Hardware-Aware Scientific Computing

The school will be a hybrid event with live sessions at both places and streaming to offsite participants.

Aim

Bring together PhD candidates from Mathematics, Computer Science and Scientific Computing to study the interplay of efficient numerical algorithms with modern computer hardware.

Format

First week (October 4-8) is filled with lectures covering all aspects from hardware, programming models and algorithms to applications.

Second week (October 11-15) features small projects lead by a pair of supervisors from India and Germany.

  • Programming models and accelerator programming
  • Scalable methods for solving partial differential equations (PDEs)
  • Optimal control of PDEs
  • Large-scale Bayesian inference and data assimilation
  • Energy-aware numerical methods

Application Process

The school is part of the activities of the Indo-German Partnerships in Higher Education (IGP) Programme. The application process is open to all members of the program. If you are not a member of the program you can also apply to participate.

Please note that the number of participants is limited. Confirmation of registration is based on the evaluation of your application.

Application for External Participants 

If your not associated with the Indo-German Partnerships in Higher Education (IGP) Programme please:

1) submit your application via the online tool -> Registration Link.

2) submit a CV as well as a Letter of Motivation to the following email address -> iwrschool@iwr.uni-heidelberg.de.

After you have submitted your application via the online tool and provided us with your CV as well a Letter of Motivation, you will get a confirmation email from the IWR School Office that we have received your application data.


Participants Fee

Associates of the Indo-German Partnerships in Higher Education (IGP) Programme: free (covered by the project)
Members of Heidelberg University: 50,- EURO
External / Non-Members of Heidelberg University: 150,- EURO

After your participation is confirmed we will send you an invoice for the registration fee 4 weeks before the event starts. The fee covers the attendance to the school, the conference dinner and the coffee breaks.

Mobility Program

The IWR School offers a mobility program to support participants to attend the event.

The program covers:

  • the participation cost
  • support to travel costs
  • support for accommodation

The mobility program will support up to 10 external students to realize their participation. The program targets both German and international participants.

In case you want to apply to the mobility program, please indicate the scope of the required amount and explain this in a separate paragraph of your letter of motivation.

Accommodation

The participants are kindly requested to make hotel reservations individually. Accommodation cost is not covered by the registration fee. Our guest often stay at the following hotels:
